Bay Area Science Festival

Created by the Bay Area’s scientific, cultural, and educational institutions, the 7th annual Bay Area Science Festival returns October 26th – November 11th 2017. The Science & Health Education Partnership (SEP) at the  UC – San Francisco (UCSF) is pleased to produce the festival alongside a core group of science institutions. The festival will provide a wide range of science & technology activities – lectures, debates, exhibitions, concerts, plays, workshops, etc. –at a variety of locations throughout the Bay Area.

Day of the Dead San Francisco
When: November 2nd, 2017
Where: 22nd and Bryant
San Francisco, CA

Día de los Muertos is a traditional Meso-American holiday dedicated to the ancestors; it honors both death and the cycle of life. In Mexico, neighbors gather in local cemeteries to share food, music, and fun with their extended community, both living and departed. The celebration acknowledges that we still have a relationship with our ancestors and loved ones that have passed away.

San Francisco Vintners Market
When: November 4th and 5th, 2017
Where: Fort Mason Festival Pavilion

San Francisco Vintners Market is the first and only farmer’s market in the U.S. created especially for wineries. Founded in 2010 as a way for winemakers to connect with wine lovers to sell wine directly to consumer and trade buyers.

The fun-packed event, held twice each year in the Spring and Fall at the historic Fort Mason Center, attracts local and international visitors from around the world, with a broad selection of boutique wines from all over California and the leading global wine regions in a single outpouring of fun and great wines.

SoFi Golden Gate Half Marathon and 5k
When: November 4th, 2017
Where: Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Half is more than just a 13.1-mile run through San Francisco. Rather, it is a spectacular journey through this stunning City by the Bay. The chance to run across the Golden Gate Bridge is an experience unlike any other, but it is far from the only breathtaking moment you’ll enjoy along the way.

Transgender Film Festival
When: November 10th – 12th, 2017
Where: Roxie Theater

The San Francisco Transgender Film Festival (SFTFF) screens films that promote the visibility of transgender and gender variant people and challenge the mainstream media’s negative stereotypes of our communities. We provide opportunities for transgender and gender variant media artists, build community through our film and performance events, and engage our audiences in cross-community dialogue.

13th Annual Pinot Days
When: November 11th, 2017

Pinot Days San Francisco celebrates the amazing noble grape in all its gloriously diverse styles, and this year’s offering is more broad and complete than ever. Over 80 artisan winemakers representing every domestic Pinot Noir region will pour the fruits of their craft, each sharing their unique interpretation of Pinot Noir and the stories of their winemaking.

The Christmas Ballet
When: November 17th – December 24th, 2017

Baby, it’s cold outside, but it’s sizzlin’ hot around the Bay Area when Smuin kicks off the holidays with The Christmas Ballet. From classical to cool and contemporary, Smuin offers two acts filled with a stunning and original array of ballet, tap, and jazz. A joyous celebration of dance and a true holiday classic, the San Francisco Chronicle said “there’s no better way to express the joy of the season.” This year’s program will again feature Smuin favorites as well as new pieces.

Parade of Lights and Winter Wonderland
When: November 24th, 2017
Where: Downtown San Rafael

Downtown San Rafael will once again host its annual Holiday Parade & Winter Wonderland. In its 38th year, the event features a Holiday Marketplace with arts and crafts, live entertainment, children’s activities, free snow sledding, and one of the largest Holiday Parades in the Bay Area.

The event is attended by people from all over the Bay Area. It also enjoys a very “local” feel and is known as a great destination for people of all ages. The event starts at noon with free snow sledding and kids’ activities and a Holiday Marketplace. The Parade begins at 5:30 PM.

555 California Street Lighting Celebrations

The 555 California Street Tree Lighting Celebration is San Francisco’s premier annual holiday event. In 2017 we are teaming with Culinary Kickoff™ to launch a re-imagined holiday celebration – 555 California Street All Star Holiday Culinary Kickoff™! This year’s exciting new event will feature All Star talent teamed with tasting selections from top Bay Area chefs and vintners. In keeping with the 555 California Street Tree Lighting traditions, this year’s event will include exclusive musical performances, a tree lighting countdown and other beloved festivities.
